Although this does not directly relate to my "littles," I thought it would be fun to mention a good friend of mine came to speak with the "Beauty and the Beast" pit (pictured above) and cast. Ryan Claus is a long-time professional musical theater pit musician. He has performed with several domestic tours, and he is currently playing Reed 1 on an International tour of "Beauty and the Beast." He has played over 900 performances of that musical alone. CCHS students had many excellent questions to ask about the business and about touring.

Most people love some type of music or another. It surrounds our daily lives. Students enjoy being successful during music class. Music is already known to them. In our classroom, we take what they know and further their appreciation by relating music to other subject areas, by introducing new songs and instruments, and by introducing the means to read and write music.
Music connects to other subject areas including science (acoustics, frequencies, volume), math (fractions), physical education (fine motor skills, posture), and language (rhyming, rhythm, foreign languages). "I would teach children music, physics, philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning." -Plato |
