I always enjoy joining colleagues to perform in the "Old People Jazz Band" during Jazz Dance Night each year. (That's me on keyboard - lol!")

Mrs. McDowell brought her show choir to the schools, and they gave fantastic performances. I was lucky enough to be at both the ECC and the ES for their shows. Enjoy the pictures of both shows. Great job high schoolers! The HS spring concert is Wednesday, May 17 at 7pm if you want to catch a live performance!
I had a local Daisy and Brownie Troop come visit the music room after school this week. I gave a presentation on the Science of Sound and how that relates to instruments. Pictured above, girls are making their own kazoos.
It's so exciting to see what comes to the stage in Coal City! We have some great talent up there! Pictured are Intermediate School students performing their musical "Peter Pan" directed by Jen Ness. High School students performing their musical "The Little Mermaid" directed by Jack Micetich. The Street Corner Symphony was brought in by the Megan Bugg concert series and were a fantastic A Capella group!! Finally, one of our Kindergarten teachers performs on stage with their Senior Poms during Cabaret Night directed by Bonnie McDowell.
Part of one of the handbell choirs that I perform with was able to play short assemblies of holiday music at both the ES and ECC today. We had a great time, and the students were a fantastic audience!
The ECC and ES were able to enjoy a short assembly performance by the CCHS Madrigals on Monday. The students loved it! Madrigals perform their dinner theater this weekend. Check out the CCHS webpage for more information.
On November 5th, we had a fantastic combination community band perform in the CCHS Auditorium. This group of amateur and professional musicians get together every year to perform a concert and promote community band. If you are an adult and miss your old band days, dust off that instrument and contact one of the community bands listed in the picture above! If you are a student, you don't have to go pro to continue to enjoy making music past high school!
The ECC had a blast learning the Polka-Dot Pants Dance by Eric Litwin. Mrs. Melvin noticed there was a dance contest to win a visit from the author. Mrs. Prendergast asked if we could coordinate the contest with International Dot Day that she celebrates in the art room. Mr. Monbrum and I taught students the dance during P.E. and music classes. Many classroom teachers practiced the dance in their rooms as well. Then Mrs. Melvin and Mrs. Crawford recorded students performing the dance in several places including the playground, cafeteria, and assembly! With the assistance of Mrs. Melvin and Mrs. Prendergast, I edited the footage, and our dance was submitted. Enjoy!
We always enjoy a good assembly at the ECC, and Footnotes was fantastic! I think our students especially liked being able to go up and perform with the high school students!
