VOICE: By the end of this week, students knew all of their first concert song "Squirm." They are already coming up with fun ideas to make our concert unique! And their voices are sounding great too!!!
NOTATION: Students continue to work on their notes. The whole note has now been introduced. We started our second turn rotating through rhythm patterns. This time around, students choose a rhythm pattern from a large selection of patterns I have already written. Then they copy it on the board while the rest of us continue with music class. By copying, they are practicing how to write their notes. They can also choose to add more notes, rests or a repeat sign to their pattern (pictured above). After they write it, they have to tell us what notes they are before we all clap it together. INSTRUMENTS: Our featured instrument this week was the violin. Students listened to orchestral violin playing (Rimsky-Korsakov "Scheherazade") and folk violin playing "fiddling." Students also got to try playing the violin (pictured above). MOVEMENT: We danced to our folk song selections and played "Charlie Over the Ocean." CONCEPTS: Ear training on major / minor and high / low. On Wednesday, November 6, six of Miss Carlson's students performed their rhythm charts at the at the School Board Meeting. They did a terrific job!!!
VOICE: First Graders practiced autumn and Halloween songs.
NOTATION: We finished up turn 1 of picking a rhythm pattern and clapping it. Next week starts our 2nd turns with rhythm patterns. INSTRUMENTS: We talked about sound effects then used instruments and our voices to add them to the book "In the Haunted House" by Eve Bunting (pictured above). Friday classes also played our game "Guess Who Tapped." MOVEMENT: We used scarves to move to our autumn and Halloween songs (pictured above). We also danced to Monster Mash and Thriller. |
